Picodi: An average Pinoy has to work for 90.9 days to afford an iPhone 14 Pro

For Filipinos to be able to buy the iPhone 14 Pro, they need to work for roughly 3 months.

Turkey, Brazil, and PH have the longest time

Since 2018, the team from Picodi.com performs research to come up with an iPhone index. This refers to an annual iPhone price to the average wage ratio.

This year, the team juxtaposed the local iPhone 14 Pro (128 GB) prices with average earnings in various countries and calculated the iPhone Index. 

The study noted that the calculation is based on the official prices of the iPhone 14 Pro (128 GB) presented either by the local branches of Apple or its authorized sellers. Meanwhile, the Picodi.com team gathered information from countries' official statistics office websites for average wages.

To recall, Apple has recently released the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. In the Philippines, the iPhone 14 Pro in its base version is sold at PHP 70,990. 

The iPhone 14 Pro features a 120 Hz ProMotion OLED display with 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness and 2,000 nits peak outdoor brightness. It also runs a new 4nm-based Apple A16 Bionic chip with 16 billion transistors.

The flagship handset also sports a 48MP main camera,  a 12MP 3x optical telephoto lens, and a new 12MP 1.4 µm size ultra-wide-angle camera. It also has stereo speakers and 5G connectivity. It also runs with iOS 16 out of the box.

The latest Numbeo data said that the average net income wage in the Philippines is PHP 16,401. According to the research, an average Filipino can purchase the said device in a span of 90.9 days. 

This is allegedly possible, given that all the money earned is put into savings for this purpose. When compared to the 2021 data, the number of days required increased by 0.7 days.

Meanwhile, an average citizen of Switzerland will earn money for iPhone 14 Pro (128GB): for 4.6 days only. As for average Americans, they will be able to afford it after working for 5.7 days, and Australians after 6.1 days for Australians.

Among the countries included in the ranking, the worst result was noted in Turkey, where the iPhone is worth 146.7 man-days. The second and third worst result belongs to the Philippines and Brazil – 90.9 and 74.2 days respectively.
