Based on a circulating Facebook post, it seems like the Department of Education purchased an overpriced Canon EOS 1500D DSLR camera.
DepEd DSLR?

Another overpriced purchase?

Based on the post, DepEd purchased the camera with a kit lens for PHP 155,929 in 2022 (last year).

A quick Google search showed that Henry's Cameras, an official distributor of Canon is currently selling it for just PHP 31,278.16 online. The listed SRP is PHP 33,998.00.

We should take the post with a grain of salt as it is not confirmed yet.

But if true, DepEd purchased the item around 4.5x its SRP from the winning bidder, and don't tell us that it is not overpriced.

At PHP 150K, DepEd could have bought a way better camera instead of the entry-level Canon EOS 1500D.

As a quick recap, the Canon EOS 1500D comes with an 18-55mm IS II kit lens.

It features a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor & DIGIC 4+ image processor, 9-point AF with 1 centre cross-type AF point, Standard ISO 100 - 6400 (expandable to 12800), and WiFi/NFC support.

Anyway, we are hoping that the image that is currently circulating online is fake. If true, let's hope that a Senate investigation with action will happen.

Apart from the Canon EOS 1500D activist Renato Reyes also shared other sets of documents showing other possible overpriced purchases of cameras in 2019.

What do you guys think?
