More than 40 million SIM cards are now registered, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
In a statement, the DICT said that as of March 5, a total of 40,498,324 are now registered in the system.
But the figure was only at 23.97 percent of the over 168 million SIM users across the country.
Smart Communications - 20,630,475
Globe Telecom Inc. - 16,788,804
DITO Telecommunity Corp. - 3,079,045
DICT Undersecretary and spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo urged users to register their SIMs before the April 26 deadline.
We still have 51 days. We are encouraging subscribers and end-users of our local PTEs to register as the deadline is fast approaching. To avoid user traffic and to ensure a hassle-free process, registering as soon as possible is a must, she said.
If a user fails to register his SIM before the set deadline, it will result in the deactivation of the SIM.
