The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) sees no need to further extend the SIM registration deadline, saying the government and telco players already hit their target numbers.

The last day of SIM registration is set on July 25

According to DICT Secretary Ivan Uy, the number of registered SIM cards stood at 104,334,729 out of more than 168 million, as of July 19.

Uy noted that the extension of the original April deadline allowed users in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) to register. Following that extension, 20.3 million more SIM users were able to register, he added.

Base sa datos from some of the telcos, yung mga tinatawag na revenue generating SIM kumbaga itong mga SIM na nagbabayad ng postpaid, nasa 99% na sila. I think we’re already there. Yung iba either talagang pasaway or ginagamit for scams at hindi talaga sila magpaparehistro, Uy said.

The DICT chief also urged the public to be vigilant against the proliferation of scammers, with fraudsters now lurking on social media platforms.

Users have until July 25 to register their SIM or deal with deactivation.

To reactivate, the government is giving them five days—from July 26 to 30.
