Is the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP's battery life and 68W fast wired charging legit?

We share our experience with Infinix NOTE 30 VIP's battery 68W charging tech to see if it is worth the hype for its price range.

Infinix NOTE 30 VIP's stunning design

Before that, let's recap the specs of the phone. The Infinix NOTE 30 VIP features a 120Hz 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and 360Hz touch sampling rate. Inside is the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 8050 octa-core processor, Mali-G77 GPU, 12GB LPDDR4X RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and dual SIM support.

At the back of the phone are the 108MP primary camera, 2MP macro, 2MP portrait, and a Quad-LED flash while in front is the 32MP f/2.45 selfie camera with Dual Flash.

The highlight of the phone is that for only PHP 13,999, you are getting a phone with 5G, all of the above along, and a large 5,000mAh battery with 68W fast wired charging, 50W wireless charging, reverse charging, and pass-thru charging.

This means that when you plug the phone in, the phone will draw power directly from the wall charger. This should allow users to use the phone safely when the battery is empty or fully charged.

So, is the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP's Battery life and 68W fast wired charging legit?

Legit 68W ultra-fast charging?

We wanted to see if the 68W fast charging truly offers a charging time that is impactful to our daily routine. But before that, there are minor caveats. To get the most out of this feature, you must use the included 68W wall charger and USB Type-A to USB-C cable. We tried three other high-capacity cables, but none of them were able to unlock the 68W charging.

Being a capable 5G device with the MediaTek Dimensity 8050, the phone is capable of running demanding apps and games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. In fact, the phone unlocked the medium graphics settings as the default which is impressive because, in the past, only higher-grade SoCs can do this.

Playing two games for several hours is no problem for the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP

From our experience, the phone's battery is able to handle several hours of gameplay with under 5 hours of onscreen time.

Like any phone, the battery will eventually run out of juice. But because of the 68W fast charging coupled with the pass thru charging, we can just plug the phone in and use it within minutes.

In the above picture, we drained the phone to 1 percent. We then plugged the phone into the wall thru the included 68W charger and USB-C cable. After 23 minutes, the phone's battery was already at 42 percent. Fast forward 18 minutes and the phone was already at 60 percent charging. So we are getting 50 percent battery with 30 minutes of charge.

After another 13 minutes, we charged up to 74 percent. Five minutes later, we get to 80 percent. We reached 100 percent at around 2:40PM.

During the duration of the charging, we noticed that the Infinix NOTE 30 VIP's temperature was gradually rising but it never got alarmingly hot. We suspect that because of the humid environment, the 68W charging fell short of its promise to charge the phone fully in 40 minutes. As it took us an hour to get to 80 percent.

We redid the test with the phone in direct exposure from our air conditioner and the result was interesting. It charged the phone to 89 percent in under 40 minutes and it charge the phone before it reached 54 minutes.

These are not the fastest charging speeds we've ever seen yet but these are still among the faster ones for their affordable price.

Quick thoughts

With that small amount of time, we were able to get a full charge in under 1 hour when under direct exposure to the aircon. 

We do want to emphasize that to get the fastest charging speeds, the phone must be kept cool and be kept in a cool environment.

This implies that if we were ever in a pinch and we only had a short time to charge, we could charge the battery to a more comfortable level. In certain situations, this could mean the difference between having an empty battery before a workday ends.

This also means that we could continue a long and immersive gaming session that otherwise would have been cut short.

We also like to note that we are very impressed with its actual battery performance. This can definitely last for more than a day of use on just a single charge.

My battery and charging experience on this unit is top-notch for a smartphone with strong specs priced at just PHP 13,999.
