HONOR 90 Lite Unboxing, First Impressions, and Camera Samples

We share our thoughts on the upcoming HONOR 90 Lite with a unique camera module design, Dimensity 6020, 100MP rear camera and a 90Hz LTPS screen.

HONOR 90 Lite's stunning rear design

It packs the 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G SoC, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a 4,500mAh battery.

At the back are the 100MP f/1.9 main camera, 5MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera while in front is the 16MP selfie camera.

Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and IR blaster.

Unboxing/Accessories

HONOR 90 lite's box

It comes in a white box with the minimal HONOR 90 Lite branding, regulatory information and key specs and features.

Box inclusions

Inside the box are the HONOR 90 Lite, documentation, bumper case, SIM ejector tool, USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack, USB-A to Type-C cable, and the 67W wall charger.

There are no included earphones inside the box.

Build Quality/Design

HONOR 90 lite rear design

From afar, you immediately notice the eye-catching glittering cyan color and the unique camera bump. When you get closer and grab it, you immediately notice how lightweight and slim the phone is.

It is made of a combination of glass, and polycarbonate.

HONOR 90 lite's display

The screen is a 6.7-inch LTPS LCD with a 2388 x 1080 resolution, a 19.9:9 aspect ratio and a 90Hz refresh rate. Around the flat panel are slim top and side bezels with a significantly thicker chin bezel.

It produces images with decent sharpness, vibrant color and deep enough contrast.

Top and bottom 

On top of the phone are the microphone port while at the bottom are the speaker grill, USB-C port and a second microphone port.

Left and right sides

On the left side is the SIM tray while on the right are the volume rocker and the power key.

SIM tray

The HONOR 90 Lite's sim tray can carry two nano-SIM cards and it features green rubber gasket that indicates a form of water resistance.

HONOR 90 lite's rear cameras

At the back of the phone is the 100MP f/1.9 main camera, 5MP ultra-wide and depth camera, and the 2MP f/2.4 macro camera with an LED flash.

The stock camera app's modes include Photo, Portrait, Night, Aperture, Video, Multi-Video,  Panorama, Stickers, Story, Slo-Mo, Time-lapse, High-Res, Pro, HDR Photo, Super Macro and Document scan.

The Pro mode allows for controls of ISO (100-3200), Shutter Speed (8-1/4000 sec), EV (+-4), Focus and White Balance. It also allows users to switch between 1x and 2x crop.

All of the daylight images have vibrant and eye-catching color but only the 1x and 2x crop had decent detail and sharpness. The ultra-wide angle's image is mush because of the noise and noise reduction.

Both selfies have decent sharpness on the subject and vibrant color but the skin tones are not quite right. The edge detection of the Portrait mode is good for its price range.

We hope the results will be consistent once we do more testing. 

Other key features of the phone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 5G, Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, NFC and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

HONOR 90 lite web surfing

We are excited to see HONOR 90 Lite perform with our longer-term testing. 

For the price of under PHP 13K, it could be a compelling option because of its 90Hz LTPS screen, Dimensity 6020 SoC, 100MP rear main camera, and the 4,500mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging.

Out of the box, our main concerns are the ultra-wide camera as it was already soft with daylight images.

Otherwise, the HONOR 90 Lite is promising.
