Meta unveils Quest 3 MR: Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip, 2K resolution, and 3D Spatial audio!

Meta officially launched the Quest 3 Mixed Reality (MR) Headset bringing some upgrades from its predecessor.

Meta Quest 3 Mixed Reality headset launched! 

The most notable change is its now slimmer than the previous models. This is thanks to the Pancake lens design allowing offering a 40 percent slimmer optical profile compared to Quest 2. 

The new headset also weighs 515 grams making it slightly higher than the previous one with 503 grams.

Moving to its display, it features a 2208 x 2064 resolution 90Hz refresh rate and a 120Hz experimental mode. It also has a field of view of 110 degrees horizontally and 96 degrees vertically.

The controller and accessories

Meta says this can work independently, but you can also connect it to your PC via the Quest Link cable or wirelessly via Air Link.

Inside, the headset is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip paired with 8GB DRAM.  Meanwhile, the device holds two RGB color cameras and depth projection which the brand claims will bring 10x resolution over the previous models and 2x improvement from the Quest Pro in passthrough.

Finally, the headset has Touch Plus controllers with TruTouch haptics, built-in 3D spatial audio speakers, and an adjustable head strap. While you can also get hand tracking with 4x IR cameras. The Quest 3's battery life is allegedly 2.2 hours on average, according to Meta. With the 18W charger that is included, a full charge takes 2.3 hours.

Meta Quest 3 512GB - USD 650 (around PHP 36.8K)

Pre-orders are now up but it will be first available in the US. It's unclear whether it will arrive in the Philippines.
