Announced back in November 2022, the Fitbit Versa 4 is a slim smartwatch packed with health-focused features.
This is the successor to the Fitbit Versa 3 and now features a slimmer design, a 1.58-inch AMOLED touchscreen, all-day health tracking, a 6 to 7-day battery, 5ATM water resistance, and more.
Let's see how it performs.
First, you will see a rectangular box in Gray and White color combinations. Inside, is the smartwatch unit itself, a USB-A charging cable, a FREE longer strap, and paperwork.
In terms of build material, we notice it has aluminum and stainless steel frames that make it durable, sturdier, and less prone to scratches. In fact, the case survived seawater and did not retain any corrosion signs or whatever.
As you can see it also has a slim profile and some squarish curves making it minimalist and less standout just as what you would expect from a sport or health-focused watch.
When it comes to straps, it uses soft rubber straps that you can wrap around your wrist. It comes in Grayish-Blue colors which again compliment its minimalist look.
As mentioned above, it has a FREE longer strap which is a nice thought since that means Fitbit considers users with the bigger wrist. You can also have the option to buy different straps available in the market or at Fitbit's website.
At the front, you can see a 1.58-inch AMOLED panel with touchscreen capability, 336 x 336 resolution at 268.6 PPI. The display produces vibrant images while the touchscreen response is accurate.
You can also adjust the display levels from dim, normal, and Max. What we liked here is that the Versa 4 can automatically adjust the brightness levels depending on your environment. Allowing us to see the information regarding health, quick messages, and notifications without hassle or taking a look back. We also never experience misreads when working out or when traveling outside.
Meanwhile, you can find a single button on the left side for additional controls and checking on the device. The action button can also be used to activate Amazon Alexa. A handy feature so you can do voice commands to control your device. Although sadly, there's no Hey Google in this one.
At the bottom, you can see different sensors, and green lights that are meant to track your heart rate, altimeter, and Blood Oxygen (Spo2).
Moving forward, before you start using the Fitbit Versa 4, you will see a QR code on the watch itself. Upon scanning, it will redirect you to the Fitbit app. From there, you will need to download and install the app and fill in the appropriate information needed. You also have the option to download it on the Play Store or App Store.
Upon finishing the process, you can now use the app where you can customize different watch faces, further view your activity and health information, set notifications, and manage features.
Navigating through the smartwatch itself you can see steps taken, activities, actual heart rate, sleep data, stress levels, stopwatch, your location/weather, and different exercise modes.
We like that we can keep track of our heart rate when doing exercise. In case you went overboard the watch will vibrate to notify you need to slow your pace down. It is most noticeable when we go hiking or intense biking. In situations where you are too slow, the Versa 4 will also notify you to add some pacing to ensure you can burn calories.
Speaking of notifications, the smartwatch is consistent in giving you alerts particularly when you are sitting or standing for longer periods. It even knows when you are walking or running and automatically sets the mode to it and will log it as an exercise activity to the app.
The Fitbit Versa 4 also allows users to find their phone, use Fitbit Pay or Google Pay via NFC, set alarms, and use Google Maps.
Speaking of which, once you open Google Maps, it won't specifically give you a mini-sized map instead it will provide voice-guided directions which can be "helpful and much safer" when you are navigating during your biking or running sessions. It makes sense since you would rather keep your attention on the road to prevent any accidents.
Another feature to note is the relaxation mode, where the watch can provide guided breathing. The watch will notify you to be still, breathe slowly and there will appear a bubble that you can follow for how long you will inhale or exhale. Moreover, the users can set the preferred duration in this mode.
We would also like to point out that the watch supports Bluetooth calling. We don't experience any delays while our voice is heard clearly on the other end. The speakers were average with distortions on higher volumes. It is also just enough to hear your call or guided directions when using Google Maps.
When it comes to battery, Fitbit did not specify the mAh capacity but promised it could deliver up to 6 days and 3 days with Always-on. In actual usage, it does actually last up to 6 days or sometimes 7 days.
Personally, I don't use the Always-on feature to avoid charging frequently. Also, we were able to charge the device in an hour to full using our 18W power source. There's also a fast charging feature that can last you up to a full day in just 12 minutes of charge. That can be helpful especially if you forgot to do it at night.
Our only gripe here is that Fitbit omitted the music app which is present on the previous models. This means you can't control the music on your phone while you are working out. Fortunately, most earbuds and headphones have music control.
Price at PHP 14,790, the Fitbit Versa 4 is a durable and capable health tracker with many different sports modes, decent battery life, an excellent app, and some convenient features like Bluetooth calling, Alexa voice commands, and voice-guided navigation.
However, the lack of music control and the inability to install 3rd party apps might be a turn-off for some especially since there are much lower-priced smartwatches that have it.
Still, that doesn't stop the Fitbit Versa 4 from being a performer and should help you lose those calories.
Again you may get it at Digital Walker. It is also currently discounted by PHP 300 so you can get it for PHP 14,490.
