Sony Xperia 1 VI launched: SD8G3, 52MP Exmor T lens, and 12MP 7x telephoto zoom!

Sony launched its latest flagship device today in the form of the Xperia 1 VI with an improved display and better zoom.

Sony's flagship is known for its remarkable camera technology. This device features a 52MP primary shooter with an Exmore T lens and Zeiss optics, which can do 24mm to 48mm focal length. 

The cameras

It is paired with 12MP 16mm ultra-wide camera while another spotlight would be its 12MP periscope telephoto sensor with an 85mm to 170mm focal length. Sony says this can provide up to 7x telephoto zoom.

It also has telemacro capability which can provide maximum magnification of up to 2x and a minimum focus distance of 4cm even though Sony did not include a macro sensor.

Furthermore, the rear cameras use AI technology to identify human skeletons and activate accurate autofocus tracking particularly in challenging shooting situations made by potential obstructions that hide the subject's visibility, Sony claims.

The features

Moving forward, the phone uses a 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED HDR panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 1-120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz motion blur reduction, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Sony Xperia 1 VI also has creator mode powered by CineAlta which is inspired by Master Monitor color reproduction. Apart from that, the display also has DCI-P3 100 percent color gamut, 10-bit colors, Illuminant D65 White point, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

Inside, it is powered by the 3.3GHz 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 8-core chip with Adreno GPU, 12GB LPDDR5X, and 256GB UFS 4.0 expandable storage.

For battery, the phone uses a 5,000mAh capacity which charges using USB-C 30W power brick. The device also features Xperia Adaptive charging, Battery Care, Stamina mode, Qi wireless charging, and a share function.

For selfies, the phone uses a 12MP 1/2.9-inch  Exmore RS mobile sensor with an 84-degree wide angle.

Other features noted are a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, vapor chamber cooler, IP65/IP68 rating, and 3.5mm audio jack.

For connectivity, the phone has 5G, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 6E (2.4GHz/5GHz), GPS, and NFC.

Software-wise the Xperia 1 VI runs Android 14 with 3 OS upgrades and 4 years security patches.
