Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 launched: IP48, SD8G3 for Galaxy, starts at PHP 105,990

Samsung introduced the new Galaxy Z Fold6 with a sleeker design, two 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and a 4,400mAh battery.

Next Generation Fold

The next-generation Fold features a sleeker and boxier design which reduced its size and weight. The loss in weight is dramatic enough that the new Fold6 is as heavy as the Galaxy S24 Ultra at 239 grams (from 254 grams). Like the Galaxy Z Flip6, the metal frame now has a brushed aluminum finish.

To achieve the sleeker and boxier design, Samsung has used a new Dual Rail Hinge that distributes the physical impact better which the brand claims makes it 2x more resistant to pokes and pressure. 

It is made of a 10 percent stronger variant of Armor Aluminum.

The new Z Fold6 features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with a 2,160 x 1,856 resolution, a 1-120Hz Adaptive refresh rate, and a 20.9:18 aspect ratio. On the outside is the 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 2376 x 968 resolution and a 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate.

Both the cover screen and the rear glass panel are Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protected.

Inside the phone is the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy octa-core processor, 12GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB internal storage, and a 4,400mAh battery with 25W Adaptive fast charging via USB-C. It supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare.

On the cover screen is the 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera while under the folding screen is the 4MP f/1.8 under-display selfie camera. At the back are the 50MP f/1.8 main camera with Dual Pixel AF, a 12MP f/2.2 123-degree ultra-wide angle camera, a 10MP f/2.4 3x optical telephoto camera with OIS, PDAF, and an LED flash.

Other features include stereo speakers, 5G, 4G LTE, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual Nano-SIM card, and IP48 water and dust resistance (from IPX8 on Z Fold5). 

The Z Fold6 measures 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6mm when unfolded. Running the show is Android 14-based OneUI 6.1.1 with Galaxy AI.

It will receive 7 generations of OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates. Google Gemini app is said to be fully integrated with the Z series. Included AI features include Generative AI, Circle to Search, Interpreter, and Live Translate.

Note Assist in Samsung Notes has an embedded transcription, translation, and summarizing of voice recordings directly in Notes. 

Composer on Samsung Keyboard generates suggested text based on simple keywords. It can reflect the user's tone by analyzing previous posts. 

Sketch to Image allows users to generate images using a pre-drawn sketch by the user.

Samsung claims that the Z Fold6 is made with recycled gold and copper while the packaging is made from 100 percent recycled paper.

Lastly, it will come in either Silver Shadow, Pink or Navy colorways.

Like the Galaxy Z Flip6, the Z Fold6 will be available for pre-order today, July 10. It is expected to be available in stores this July 31, 2024.
