A new mid-range chip with improved gaming prowess

The new chip brings significant changes and breaks away from previous designs in the series. It delivers better performance and efficiency, as well as gaming, camera, AI, and audio capabilities.

It now uses TSMC's 4nm process with ARMv9 CPU cores boasting a Cortex-A720 prime core clocked at 2.3GHz, 3x A720 with 2.2GHz for big cores, and 4x Cortex-A520 at 1.8GHz as efficiency cores.

Qualcomm claims it brings 11 percent better CPU performance, 29 percent GPU performance, and 12 percent power efficiency.

The new chip is also the first in its series to support INT4, allowing optimized models with more parameters to be compressed into smaller amounts of RAM. Qualcomm, for example, is developing AI for text summarization. The firm stated that there will be a certain memory needed for LLMs running on the device, but did not provide a specific figure.

Additionally, it supports 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM with 3200MHz frequency or LPDDR4X at 2133MHz for affordable models. It also supports UFS 3.1 and added USB-C 3.1 to power external screens up to 4K 60 GPS, 10-bit colors, and HDR10+.

When it comes to the device itself, it can handle up to FHD+ and up to 144Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, its Adreno GPU has Snapdragon Game Super Resolution allowing an upscale up to 4K gaming and Adreno Frame Motion to double the frame rate while drawing power more efficiently.

In terms of cameras, the chip uses 12-bit ISPs enabling it to handle up to 200MP sensors, and 4K HDR recording at 30 fps. It also has HDR10 and HLG formats, and 10-bit HEIF for images.

For connectivity, it has a 5G modem with sub-6GHz 4x4 MIMO and mmWave 2x2 MIMO, WiFi 6E (2.4GHz/5GHz/6GHz), Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Adaptive and triple frequency GPS (L1/L5L2).

Finally, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is expected to be seen first in realme, OPPO, and HONOR devices. Fans may expect them to arrive in the "coming months" as mentioned by Qualcomm.
