Beating Trump's tariff vs. China

Tech giant Apple has shipped 600 tons of iPhones, or around 1.5 million units of the device, from India to the US, one of its biggest markets, according to Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The news agency said this development comes as Apple boosts its production and build an inventory to address the impact of President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The tech giant "wanted to beat the tariff," according to one of Reuters' sources.

Experts have warned about a possible surge in iPhone prices after Trump imposed a 125% tariff rate against China, the main manufacturing hub for Apple devices.

This is far beyond the 26 percent tariff imposed on imports from India.

A source and an Indian government official said about six cargo jets with a capacity of 100 tons each have flown out since March. Apple pushed to cut to six hours from 30 hours the time needed to clear customs at the Chennai airport.

Globally, Apple sells over 220 million iPhones each year. Notably, Counterpoint Research estimates that India has become the source for one-fifth of all iPhone imports to the US, with majority remaining to come from China.

What do you think, guys?
