This is the new Maya Card

The easy-to-acquire "black" premium credit card?

According to the company, this is designed for "mobile-first" consumers. It is powered by Maya's proprietary data and AI-driven credit models as well.

The Maya Black card is also the company's attempt to create a premium-tier credit card following the success of the
Maya Landers credit card last year. As of writing, the company has already issued around 200K credit cards.

The new Maya Black card also aims to expand access to credit for more Filipinos, especially those without traditional credit histories. Maya claims that it offers fast approval, instant virtual card issuance, with a physical card delivered soon.

Maya told us that after a successful registration, the physical card should be delivered in around 5-7 days.

Credit cards have long symbolized financial freedom and status—but for most Filipinos, they've remained out of reach. With Maya Black, we're making the most desirable card in the market—and democratizing access to it, said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group President and Maya Bank Co-Founder. This is a bold step in reshaping credit access—and a major leap in Maya’s journey as the leading provider of full suite of financial products.

We designed Maya Black for a generation that expects instant, mobile-first banking. This isn't the usual credit card—it's a re-engineered experience, said Angelo Madrid, Maya Bank President.

Maya also shared some data about the state of credit cards in the Philippines and why they are launching these types of services.

In the Philippines, credit card represents 38 percent of financial product search interest, according to Google Philippines.

However, access remains limited. BSP's 2021 survey says that 56 percent of Filipino adults find it difficult to qualify.

As of Q4 2023, only 15 percent hold a credit card according to TransUnion data. Outstanding credit card base grew from 9.3 million to 11.2 million year-over-year (YoY), or equivalent to a 20 percent increase, but penetrations remain low in a country of over 70 million adults.

Maya Black aims to directly address this gap by removing legacy barriers while scaling AI-powered credit across Maya’s rapidly growing Millennial and Gen Z base.
