BYD Sealion 5 DM-i EV redefines power and efficiency

BYD is boasting that the DM-i technology has enabled the new Sealion 5 DM-i to eliminate the customer's range anxiety. The said technology combines a 1.5-liter gasoline generator with a 12.96 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade battery. This combination delivers 197 PS and 300 Nm of torque, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. With a 71km pure electric range (NEDC standard) and a total range exceeding 1,000km, this SUV should eliminate range anxiety for urban commutes and long-distance trips.

In a recent efficiency test by the Automobile Association Philippines, racing legends George and Louis Ramirez drove the Sealion 5 DM-i across the Luzon Loop, covering 1,409.7km on a single charge and a full tank. They achieved an impressive 25.273 km/liter.

The vehicle supports 3.3kW AC charging (full charge in 4.5 hours from 15 percent) and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling the owner to power external devices for camping, emergencies, or mobile work.

The Sealion 5 DM-i measures 4,738mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,710mm tall, and is said to blend commanding presence with agility. It comes in either Artic White, Harbour Grey, Cosmos Black or Deep Sea Blue. The interiors come in a two-tone furnishing.

Its exterior boasts full LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated power mirrors, puddle lamps, and roof rails. The premium cabin features leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 10.1-inch rotating touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and access to the BYD store for apps like Stingray Karaoke, music streaming, and navigation.

Additional tech includes NFC smart card entry, push-start ignition, multiple USB ports, BYD Cloud Service with over-the-air updates, and the BYD App for remote control of security and climate settings, ensuring a seamless, connected driving experience.

Safety features include six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, ABS, EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Hold, Hill Descent Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It also comes with a rear camera with radar sensors and anti-rollover protection that should enhance driver confidence across all terrains.
