Longest software support yet from Nothing

Most Android smartphones receive two major OS updates and three years of security patches, while flagship devices typically offer at least four years of Android updates and longer security support.

Giant tech brands, such as Samsung, Apple, and Google, provide even more extended software support, and Nothing may now be looking to enhance its own update policy.

In a discussion on X, Nothing’s Co-founder Akis Evangelidis explained the company’s decision to use the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset in the upcoming Nothing Phone (3) instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

According to Evangelidis, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 offers improvements in GPU, NPU, ISP, connectivity, and default software support.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 provides four years of Android updates and four years of security patches, the Nothing Phone (3) with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will extend that support to five years of Android upgrades and seven years of security updates.

This move could position Nothing among manufacturers offering longer software support for their devices.

In comparison, the predecessor only had 3 years of support for OS and 4 years for security patches—that's a big jump and something that consumers may look forward to.

Again, the device will go official on July 1.

What do you guys think?
