More than meets the eye?

Apple says that the new Watch Ultra 3 is designed for athletes, adventurers, and everyday users. It seamlessly transitions from intense workouts to daily smartwatch functionality while prioritizing safety and wellness.

It is available in natural or black titanium; the 49mm case maintains its rugged build with 100 meters of water resistance. Apple is proud to say that it is aligning with its 2030 goal and has incorporated 40 percent recycled content, including 100 percent recycled titanium and cobalt, manufactured with renewable energy. It is supposedly durable, repairable, and meets high energy efficiency standards.

One of its standout new features is the built-in two-way satellite communications. This allows users to stay connected even when there is no cellular or WiFi coverage. Whether the user is trail running, backcountry skiing, or camping in remote areas, users can text emergency services, message friends and family, and share their location directly from their wrists.

Key satellite capabilities include:

1. Emergency SOS via Satellite: Quickly contact emergency responders and notify contacts with the user's location, even if the watch detects a severe crash or fall and you're unresponsive

2. Messages and Find My via Satellite: Send encrypted texts, emojis, Tapbacks, or SMS to recent contacts, and update your location every 15 minutes for sharing.

3. Free Access: All Satellite features are complimentary for two years after the Apple Watch Ultra 3 activation.

The two-way satellite connectivity relies on reengineered radio and redesigned antenna that doubles signal strength, enabling connections to satellites up to 800 miles away. Apple emphasizes its investment in emergency infrastructure, including 24/7 relay centers, to ensure reliable support during disasters.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 comes with a larger LTPO3 display with wide-angle OLED pixels, which Apple claims results in 24 percent thinner borders. This expands the active screen area without increasing the case size. The LTPO3 screen also enables a 1Hz Always-On refresh rate and a new Waypoint Watch Face that includes a live compass, satellite access, and Night mode.

This has apparently improved battery life as well, offering up to 42 hours of normal use. In low-power mode, it lasts up to 72 hours. Outdoor workouts with GPS and heart rate tracking last up to 20 hours. Fast charging delivers 12 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charging.
Hypertension or Blood Pressure Notifications
Hypertension or Blood Pressure Notifications

Apple introduced the new Hypertension notification for all of the new Apple Watch models, including the Watch Ultra 3. It detects chronic high blood pressure using the optical heart rate sensor. It analyzes blood vessel responses over 30-day periods, and it will alert the user to potential issues, encouraging timely medical consultations.

Another new addition is the sleep score, which evaluates sleep quality based on duration, consistency, awakenings, and stages.

For athletes, the new Workout Buddy feature offers a personalized motivation system driven by Apple Intelligence. It analyzes heart rate, pace, distance, and fitness history to deliver spoken English encouragement during sessions.
