Globe SMS Scam Shield now official |
Protection against SMS scams
This is a new feature in the GlobeOne app designed to protect customers from the growing wave of text-based scams, particularly those using spoofed Globe and GCash sender IDs.
To recap, scam messages posing as official alerts from Globe, GCash, or banks are on the rise, frequently driven by IMSI catchers that impersonate cell towers.
SMS Scam Shield is our way of giving customers more control and peace of mind. With this built-in protection, users are alerted via the GlobeOne app when they receive suspicious messages that may contain dangerous links or impersonate Globe-affiliated brands,” said Coco Domingo, Globe Product Experience Vice President.
Globe Scam Shield is FREE of charge within the GlobeOne app.
How to activate Globe Scam Shield?
- Download and install the GlobeOne app
- Open the app and select "Profile"
- Select "Security Settings"
Once activated on the GlobeOne app, the company said that the SMS Scam Shield scans messages locally on the user's device while ensuring privacy and alerts users with a push notification if a message is suspected to be a scam.
Globe Scan Shield's system also helps detect fake sender names like "GLOBE," "GLOBEREWARD," or "GCASH," and flags messages with phishing links.
As of writing, Globe Scan Shield is already enabled by 34,000 users. It has flagged over 13,000 phishing messages within weeks of rollout.
