Apple Air Tag 2 priced in PH: Improved tracker, range, and louder speaker, PHP 1,990 SRP

Apple has released the 2nd version of its AirTag, including its range of hardware enhancements designed to improve tracking performance.

Apple Air Tag 2 is now official

The new AirTag incorporates Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is also featured in the latest iPhone 17 series, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11. 

According to the company, this upgrade extends the maximum effective range for Precision Finding by up to 50 percent. The feature guides users to misplaced items using a combination of haptic feedback, on-screen visuals, and audio cues.

There's also a revised Bluetooth chip included, which Apple states further increases the connectivity range. Support for Precision Finding has been expanded to Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 or later, enabling location tracking directly from the wearable. 

The internal speaker has been upgraded and is now rated as 50 percent louder, intended to make alerts more audible when the tracker is obscured.

Alongside the hardware changes, Apple is expanding the Share Item Location feature. Users can now securely share an AirTag's location with authorized third parties, such as airline staff, to assist in recovering lost luggage. 

The company reports that over 50 airlines are participating in the program. Preliminary data from SITA indicate the initiative is associated with a 26 percent decrease in baggage delays and a 90 percent reduction in permanently lost luggage.

Privacy and security features from the previous model remain, including end-to-end encryption, regularly rotated Bluetooth identifiers, and cross-platform alerts to deter unwanted tracking. Apple reiterates that all location data is kept private and is not accessible to the company.

The updated tracker maintains environmental commitments, with a construction using 85 percent recycled plastic and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in its magnets. It remains compatible with existing AirTag accessories.
