Top-grade protection on flash drives

Kingston Technology has announced that its IronKey Keypad 200 series of hardware-encrypted USB flash drives has received FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

With this certification, the KP200 and KP200C models join the previously validated IronKey D500S.

The said certification is a rigorous government-grade security standard for cryptographic hardware.

Kingston states it is now the first hardware-encrypted USB drive supplier with three distinct models meeting this security standard.

The keypad-operated drives are designed to work across multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android.

Kingston highlights their potential use for securing data on medical, scientific, and industrial equipment with USB interfaces, noting that NIST's recent guidance for Operational Technology infrastructure recommends enhanced USB drive security.

The company said the certification process was intensive but reinforces its product offerings. According to Kingston, the validation helps the drives meet government and military standards globally and can assist organizations with compliance frameworks like HIPAA and GDPR.

Features of the KP200 series include dual administrator and user PINs, configurable read-only modes to prevent unauthorized writes, and IP68-rated durability for dust and water resistance.

The drives are available with USB-A or USB-C connectors in capacities up to 512GB and come with a three-year warranty.

Additional details are available on the Kingston website.
