At first glance, the DJI RS 4 Mini can feel intimidating.
The DJI RS 4 Mini: Quite intimidating, but looks can be deceiving

It's a proper camera gimbal with motors, locks, buttons, and a screen: the kind of tool that immediately feels like it's made for filmmakers and professionals.

For creators who are more used to filming content on a mobile phone, just looking at the RS 4 Mini is enough to make the setup feel overwhelming at first. In fact, figuring out how to attach a camera, balance it, and power everything on can be a bit scary.

But after spending some time with it, we realized that a few features make the experience much less intimidating, even for beginners and non-filmmakers. Here are three features we appreciated the most while using the DJI RS 4 Mini.

DJI RS 4 Mini: 3 features we appreciate as beginners

The UI on the touchscreen is quite user-friendly
The UI on the touchscreen is quite user-friendly

1. Easy Navigation Through Built-in Touchscreen - One of the first things we noticed on the DJI RS 4 Mini is its built-in touchscreen. The screen displays icons clearly, shows gimbal and joystick modes, and runs smoothly. It also includes an auto-lock feature, which prevents accidental touches and conserves battery power.

Combined with the front dial, the touchscreen allows beginners to fine-tune settings directly, making navigation intuitive and approachable. Even without prior experience with gimbals, we felt confident knowing we could quickly check modes, adjust parameters, and monitor the gimbal’s status.

For anyone new to gimbals, this screen makes the RS 4 Mini feel much less overwhelming than it looks.

2. Automated Axis Locks - Another feature we appreciated as beginners is the automated axis lock system.

When powering the RS 4 Mini on or off, the three axes automatically lock or unlock, so the gimbal is ready to shoot in one second. The axis arms also fold flatter than previous models, making storage and transport easier.

There's peace of mind even when your camera flips and turns, thanks to the Automated Axis Locks

This feature significantly speeds up filming, transitioning, and storage. For beginners, it removes the anxiety of handling a professional tool incorrectly, giving peace of mind that the gimbal is safe and ready to go.
Stabilized shots, no matter how you hold them

3. Noticeably Smooth Stabilization - Even without diving into advanced settings, the RS 4 Mini's 4th-generation stabilization algorithm delivers noticeably smooth footage.

Whether you're walking, performing slow pans, or trying a simple tracking shot, the difference from handheld shooting is immediately clear. The gimbal also provides excellent vertical shooting stability, which is a big plus for mobile content creators or TikTok/Instagram-style vertical videos.

While the touchscreen allows adjusting Follow Speed and response modes, even using the default settings produces polished, professional-looking shots. This makes the learning curve feel far less steep for beginners.
