Sony is stepping up its game

According to Sony, the XM6 offers a 25 percent improvement in noise cancellation over the WF-1000XM5, with a focus on mid-to-high frequencies commonly encountered in daily environments.

The product is offered in Black and Platinum Silver, maintaining Sony's minimalist design.

The WF-1000XM6 uses Sony's HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3e and Integrated Processor V2.

Each earbud is equipped with four microphones, up from three in the previous model, alongside an Adaptive Noise Canceling Optimizer designed to continuously assess external noise and fit conditions.

The system is intended to compensate for sound leakage resulting from imperfect ear tip seals.

New Noise Isolation Earbud Tips are also available in four sizes, and the earbud housing is 11 percent slimmer, shaped to better fit the inner ear. A revised ventilation structure is made to reduce internal noise caused by movement and chewing.

Audio processing is supported by dual processors with enhanced DAC amplification and 32-bit compatibility.

The driver unit features a soft edge for bass and a rigid dome for high-frequency extension. The product supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme upscaling, 360 Reality Audio, a 10-band EQ via the Sound Connect app, head tracking, and Background Music Effect.

Sony stated that it consulted mastering engineers Randy Merrill, Chris Gehringer, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski during sound tuning.

Call functionality includes bone conduction sensors, dual microphones with AI beamforming, and AI-based noise reduction per earbud.

Connectivity improvements include antennas reported to be 1.5 times larger than the previous generation. The earbuds support LE Audio and offer up to eight hours of playback, extending to 24 hours with the charging case. Qi wireless charging is included.
