Global REDMAGIC Astra 2 gaming tablet launched: 9.06 185Hz OLED, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and Liquid Cooling

The REDMAGIC Astra 2, which debuted in China in late June under the "Gaming Tablet 5 Pro" name, is now launching in markets outside China.

The pinnacle of gaming tablets?

The global version brings no notable changes to the design or hardware, meaning international buyers get the same tablet already available in China. 

It comes in Eclipse Black and Starfrost Silver, with both colors offered in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations.

The display features

The tablet features a 9.06-inch LTPO OLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate averaging 300Hz for fast response times.

Powering the device is Qualcomm's 4.6GHz 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. 

REDMAGIC also includes its dedicated RedCore R4 gaming chip alongside the main processor, which is designed to stabilize frame rates and handle graphics upscaling.

An 8,300 mAh battery provides power, with support for 75W  wired fast charging.

On the imaging side, the Astra 2 keeps things simple with a 13MP rear camera and a 9MP front camera, consistent with expectations for a gaming-focused tablet.

The tablet also includes large dual stereo speakers and dual X-axis linear motors that enable what RedMagic describes as 4D haptic feedback. 

Connectivity includes two USB-C ports: a high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and a secondary USB 2.0 port, the latter positioned along the tablet's long edge so it can be used for charging without interfering with landscape gameplay.

Software-wise, the REDMAGIC Astra 2 ships with REDMagic OS 11.5, built on Android 16.

The global launch is official today, though sales will not begin until late August. In the interim, REDMAGIC is offering early-bird vouchers that grant one-day priority access ahead of the general sale, with voucher holders also receiving an 80W charger.
