Where the earlier generations like the X3 and X4 pushed resolution limits, the new X6 positions itself as a decade-defining, all-in-one capture tool. It effectively functions as a 360-degree camera, a subject-tracking gimbal-style camera, and a high-performance single-lens action camera, eliminating the need to carry three separate devices.

The X6 comes in a new form factor that is shorter and wider but is better balanced. This lowers the center of gravity for improved stability on selfie sticks, helmet rigs, and vehicle mounts.

It features a new 2.32-inch OLED touch screen with a 1,200-nit peak brightness. It features an Always-On display mode and a full-screen press mode that allows creators to operate touch control effortlessly even while wearing heavy gloves.
Insta360 has redesigned the replaceable lenses and has introduced the X6 Replaceable Lenses 2.0. These new lenses are advertised to be 5 times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation and are 60 percent cheaper to replace, too.
It features a new custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensor which provides 33 percent more sensor surface area and nearly 4-times the light intake per frame compared to the previous models. In spherical. mode, the camera captures up to 8K at 50fps, 6K up to 60fps, and a high-frame-rate 4K at 100 fps.
The brand is boasting that it comes with a new Star-Ridge passive Thermal Management cooling system that operates 10 percent more efficiently than competing 360 cameras. The system dissipates heat effectively during long 8K recordings while maintaining an insulated, cool-to-the-touch grip.
The camera also has IP68 dust and water resistance rated at up to 20 meters out of the box without the extra housing. For deep water explorations, the invisible Dive Case Pro expands waterproofing down to 60 meters while keeping the case entirely out of the 360 stitch line.
Inside is the new 4nm 3.3 GHz octa-core flagship processor with two dedicated imaging chips. This architecture supposedly delivers 500 percent more computing power and 106 percent faster clock speed than the X5 while reducing power draw by up to 35 percent.
Low-light performance should improve with the new overhauled and dedicated low-light mode backed by dual ambient light sensors that eliminate flicker. The Adaptive Tone 2.0 meters each lens independently and shoots two exposures per frame for a drastically expanded dynamic range. It also supports native in-camera Dolby Vision recording for up to 1.07 billion colors in 10-bit color depth alongside a flat I-Log profile for advanced color grading.
Built-in is a 360-degree omnidirectional four-microphone array with active wind suppression algorithms. It even has a secondary Hidden Engine Mic that specifically isolates engine rumble and filters out wind turbulence for motorcycle riders. Creators can also connect two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters simultaneously via direct wireless connectivity.
The X6 is built around Insta360 PanoMind, a 360-native AI model trained on over 10,000 hours of footage, which offers on-device auto-editing of 360 footage. When plugged in to charge, the AI Director processes captured files directly on the camera and pushes a finished, music-synced highlight edit directly to the mobile app.

When switched to Single-Lens mode, it captures standard flat-wide angle footage at 5K up to 60fps, or 4K at 120fps. InstaFrame 2.0 allows automatic subject tracking in flat 4K straight out of the camera without needing post-processing reframing. For Photography, the X6 captures high-resolution 120MP 360 photos or 42MP single-lens stills.
The footage is stabilized using FlowState Stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock, which automatically erases compatible selfie sticks. The unit includes 47GB of usable built-in storage (out of 64GB total), allowing users to shoot even without a microSD card inserted. It connects wirelessly via NFC quick-pairing, Bluetooth fast pairing, WiFi 6 wireless transfers, and via wired USB 3.0 (at 450MB/s).
And lastly, it is powered by a removable 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery capable of delivering up to 140 minutes of continuous 8K30fps recording. This is a 50 percent improved runtime over the previous X5. It supports 30W PPS fast charging, and it charges from 0 to 80 percent in 24 minutes. It is advertised to function reliably in extreme cold temperatures of up to -20 degrees Celsius.
