Qualcomm just launched two new powerful chips, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

Two high-end mobile processors for flagship-level or true flagship phones

According to the company, both 2nm chips arrived with a significant leap in mobile computing, with each tailored to different tiers of "flagship" performance. 

First is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, a premium mobile platform to deliver balanced premium performance, combining efficiency with speed. 

It highlights the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, the first mobile CPU to reach 5GHz. The company claims that it offers a 35% performance increase with 40% better efficiency.

The chip also has a new Hexagon NPU that enhances AI workloads by 14%. It highlights agentic AI for proactive, personalized support without prompts, while adding Intelligent Pixel Control for sharper photography, Elite Color Engine to cut video noise, and Motion Intelligence for smoother stabilization.

For gamers, it has 12GB of Adreno High Performance Memory and Game Quick Touch 3.0.

Ensuring stable, reliable, and fast connectivity, the company used the Qualcomm X105 5G Modem‑RF and FastConnect 8800 WiFi system.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is poised as the true flagship chip of the company, engineered for users demanding uncompromising performance and creative capabilities.

It also features the Oryon CPU at 5GHz but pushes performance further with a 13% CPU uplift and a 44% GPU boost, supported by new Adreno matrix cores. Its Hexagon NPU is 35% faster with 33% better efficiency, and the Qualcomm Sensing Hub achieves up to 85% improved performance for on‑device AI learning.

This platform transforms smartphones into cinema‑grade production studios, supporting 8K60 and 4K240 video capture, triple 64MP cameras, and advanced color grading.

For gaming, Adreno Neural Fusion introduces AI‑powered super resolution, frame generation, and console‑quality rendering with industry‑first game engine plug‑ins.

Audio is equally advanced, with AI Voice Bubble for voice separation and Spatial Audio Renderer for immersive, low‑latency sound.

Meanwhile, connectivity is future‑ready, with the X105 5G Modem‑RF offering satellite‑ready NR‑NTN support and the FastConnect 8800 system delivering 2x faster WiFi and 3x longer range.

The first smartphones confirmed to use Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips are the Xiaomi 18 Pro with the standard Gen 6 and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max featuring the Extreme Gen 6.

Joining them is Motorola's Signature 27, while other upcoming flagships such as the OnePlus 16 and iQOO 16 are also set to adopt the platform.
