Huawei says that this new computing architecture delivers up to 25x the performance with 50x greater efficiency than typical quad-core Cortex-A73 CPU which outperforms other chips in AI tasks.

As we look to the future of smartphones, we're at the threshold of an exciting new era," said Richard Yu, CEO of HUAWEI Consumer Business Group. Mobile AI = On-Device AI + Cloud AI. HUAWEI is committed to developing smart devices into intelligent devices by building end-to-end capabilities that support coordinated development of chips, devices, and the cloud. The ultimate goal is to provide a significantly better user experience. The Kirin 970 is the first in a series of new advances that will bring powerful AI features to our devices and take them beyond the competition.

In addition, Kirin 970 boasts a new dual ISP for cameras which promises better noise reduction in lowlight and improved photos through automatic tailoring of image parameters to the particular object and scene.

It also has 4-Hybrid autofocus system that includes phase detection and contrast detection. The other two are probably laser and the normal AF.

This new chipset also has support for 4.5G Cat 18. LTE for faster download speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. In comparison, both the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 only has a Gigabit of LTE.

The Kirin 970 will first be available on the Huawei Mate 10 which will launch on October 16.

Is this the best mobile processor right now?

Very promising!
