The Y6 2018 arrived with an attractive yet simple looking box with Instragram-inspired font on the front.

Inside, it has the a 1A USB wall charger, USB to micro USB data / charging cable, SIM ejector tool pre-installed screen protector, and the usual paper documents.

However, Huawei failed to add an earphones with mic. It has no case included as well.

Build Quality / Design

The design and build of the Huawei Y6 2018 reminds us of the bigger and higher-end Nova 2 lite. It still has the matte textured polycarbonate backplate and metallic chrome painted plastic sides.

On the top, the 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved screen is protected by the pre-installed screen protector. It has no Gorilla or Dragontrail glass.

Overall, build is respectable for the price. But, you should still be careful with it. Huawei should have added a protective case inside the package.

In terms of design, the Y6 2018 is pretty good looking for the a budget smartphone. The construction looks small for a device with "big" 5.7-inch display due to its taller 18:9 screen aspect ratio and narrower looking bezels than most budget phones.

It is a good looking budget phone!

It is also quite slim and curvy for better grip and hold. The matte-like paint finish at the back also made the device looks a bit more premium looking for a budget device.

My only minor gripe is it has a slighty protruded camera at the back.

But overall, the Y6 2018 is a modern looking handset with familar buttons and ports placements.

It is not that slippery to hold too.

Initial findings

Good benchmark score for a budget phone
Good benchmark score for a budget phone

1. The build of the phone is just okay, but the Y6 2018 is one of the better looking phones for the price. It is also one of the very few with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. As a result, it has a taller looking screen for your wider viewing experience. The HD+ screen of this device even has 10 points of touch.

2. Inside, the phone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 425 chip. it is a quad-core processor designed to provide acceptable performance on budget smartphones. It also has 2GBR AM, 16GB expandable storage, and 3,000mAh battery. Interestingly, our initial charging speed test is quite fast for a phone with 1A USB charger only. It has LTE connectivity too.

3. It is one of the few budget phones with Android Oreo out of the box in the Philippines. It has the EMUI 8.0 skin on top of Oreo. EMUI 8.0 skin is one of the cleanest looking around. It is also responsive and fast enough for the price.

4. At the back, Huawei loaded this handset with a 13MP f/2.2 primary sensor and a 5MP selfie snapper. The 13MP camera can shoot great daylight photos and decent indoor images. The selfie shooter is quite good too. It even has a selfie toning screen flash for natural looking selfies in lowlight.

Huawei also revealed that they'll seed a software update to add cute AR filters on this device soon.

5. It has LED notification, OTG, and dual SIM slots. The speaker is also as loud as advertised. The face unlock is speedy and responsive in well-lit conditions so far.
