The research involved 31 countries with approximately 34,000 consumers. 1,006 of which are participants from the Philippines. 

The research revealed a healthy e-marketplace with more than half of Filipinos are looking to increase their online spending this 2018.  This is expected to rise by 32 percent from an estimated PHP 92.5 Billion in 2017 to PHP 121.9 Billion in 2018.

The key motivating factor is convenience that online platforms have brought. Coupled with expectations of faster shipping.

There is also an increase in cross-border purchases through smartphones in the Asia-Pacific region. This seen to increase with the broadening proliferation of internet connected mobile devices.

It is seen that there is a shift of consumers to e-commerce to secure daily essentials. In the last 12 months, 68 percent of Filipinos bought cross-border products like computer, phones, tablets and peripherals as well as cosmetics, and beauty products.

It is clear that value for money is a priority for shoppers and have become a struggle with barriers like shipping costs, customs duties and long processing times. Merchants need to address these concerns which PayPal provides with Refunded Returns, Buyer protection and Seller protection.
