In his presentation earlier here in Shanghai, China, Mr. Howy Shu, the Senior Director, 5G NR Wireless Connectivity division of Huawei presented a case study stating that 3D gaming could be available for the mass market in the upcoming age of 5G.

He claimed that even if your smartphone doesn't have a high-end GPU, the power of 5G and cloud-computing can help in accelerating the gaming performance of your generic GPU.

This is the cheaper solution that Huawei sees in the near future to make high-quality gaming experience available to more people.

Basically, with the help of 5G, mobile gaming will have less lag and will have a smoother performance.
It will also have less heat and consume less power versus the usual powerful dedicated GPUs found on smartphones today.
The pre-5G era is coming on early 2019 to 2020. Full global implementation of 5G is expected to arrive in 2020 onwards.
