Huawei to launch a high-end quad-camera phone with 10x zoom next year

Walter Ji, the President of Consumer Business Group in Europe of Huawei, teased some of the innovations that the company is planning to bring next year.

Quad-camera system on a high-end phone?

Aside from the foldable and 5G smartphone in H1 2019, Huawei also has a plan to unleash a high-end smartphone with a quad-camera setup.

Huawei is arguably the first company who popularized the dual-camera and triple-camera technology. But, Samsung one-upped Huawei in last month when they made the Galaxy A9 (2018) with a quad-camera system at the back official.

Huawei thinks that they will do better than Samsung though. They will put the quad-camera tech on a high-end smartphone instead of a mid-range like the A9.

Huawei also stated that it will come with up to 10x zoom. It is just unclear if it it'll be an optical, digital, or hybrid zoom. My bet is it will be an optical zoom camera with 10x hybrid zoom assisted by AI.

Currently, the P20 Pro and Mate 20/Pro/X goes with up to 5x hybrid zoom. It also has a decent 10x zoom feature, but it isn't lossless like the 5x hybrid zoom.

We think that we will see this upcoming technology with the next P series phone of the company next year.
