Exciting times!

The first 5G call in the country!

The 5G video call was made by Joachim Horn (PLDT-Smart chief technology and information advisor) from the PLDT headquarters in the Makati City to Noel Manankil (Clark Development Corp. President and CEO ) at the Clark Smart 5G City.

PLDT and Smart used the 5G Radio and Core equipment of Huawei in Makati and Ericsson in Clark to showcase interoperability even on a multi-vendor environment at this early stage.

In case you missed it, PLDT/Smart partnered with both Huawei and Ericsson to build the company's 5G network in the Philippines.

MVP stated that Huawei and Ericsson together with the government and industrial partners will establish more 5G cities across the country soon.

Smart also announced that in the coming months, they will fire-up additional 5G cell sites across Makati Central Business District. Initial tests showed that it was able to achieve up to 700 Mbps of 5G speed using Huawei's 5G solution.

The first ever 5G video call is the fruit of the company's labor in preparation for the global 5G launch in 2019.

5G is expected to deliver extremely high speeds with low latency and will open up many possible applications for Internet of Things and 5G cities.

In its ongoing LTE and LTE-Advanced roll-out, Smart is also deploying 5G-capable equipment.

Are you guys excited for 5G?
