Selling of secondhand phones now illegal in Manila
Now, the sale of secondhand phones, like the "GSM" (galing sa magnanakaw), are banned in Manila, the nation's capital.
The Mayor ordered all business establishments in the city to stop selling these products. He also pointed to close down Isetann Mall if it would be proven that the mall still has vendors selling stolen mobile phones.
He added that other violators may face closures if they defy his order.
Isko said that the Manila City Council is now drafting an ordinance in order to fully implement the ban.
This announcement came after a student reported to the Manila Police District (MPD) Special Mayor's Reaction Team (SMaRT) that he saw his stolen mobile phone from one of the vendors at Isetann Mall in Recto.
If properly implemented, this move by the Manila Mayor might help lessen crime as robbers will have fewer stores wherein they can sell the stolen phones.
Do you guys think other cities will follow this example?
