AMD Radeon RX 5500 series, made for 1080p gaming

The new Radeon RX 5500 series is also based on team Red's new 7nm RDNA architecture found in the more powerful Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. As the latter aims for 1440p gaming, RX 5500 series aims for a more modest yet smooth 1080p performance.

There are two versions for the new AMD GPU. The Radeon RX 5500 is for desktops while the RX 5500M is for laptops. The company touts that the RX 5500 series should outperform the Nvidia GTX 1650 series.

The Radeon RX 5500 offers up to 1,717MHz base clock speed and a boost clock speed of up to 1,845Mhz, up to 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and a TDP of 150W. The RX 5500M offers up to 1,448MHz base clock, up to 1,645MHz boost clock, up to 4GB of GDDR6 memory, and an 85W TDP.

AMD did not reveal the price yet. Its reasoning is that the company will not be producing its own reference designs.

Instead, all of the new cards will be produced by its hardware partners. During its presentation, the RX 5500 is compared price-wise to the RX 480 and the Nvidia GTX 1650 which gives a broad price range of between USD 149 to USD 269.

The target release date for the RX 5500 is in Q4 2019 with no specific dates. The first laptop that will come equipped with the RX 5500M was revealed to be the MSI Alpha 15 though which is planned to be released at the end of the October.
