Huawei P30 Pro Amber Sunrise vs Samsung Galaxy Note10+ - Flagship Camera Showdown
Aura Glow vs Amber Sunrise |
Announced recently is the updated Huawei P30 Pro Amber Sunrise with a new color scheme and a larger 512GB of internal storage for the price of PHP 55,990 while the all-new Samsung Galaxy Note10+ with 256GB of internal storage is priced at PHP 60,990.
Let's see how much difference a flagship from a few months ago and a flagship that was just released.
Build Quality/Design
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ on the left and the Huawei P30 Pro on the right |
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ are top of the line smartphones built with the best and with the most premium metal and glass materials. This results in both smartphones offering a premium look yet solid and hefty feel to them.
Simply stunning-looking phones!
Both phones offer a front and rear curved glass panel that sandwiches a metal frame. The curved glass panels also make both phones easier to hold in one hand but makes both smartphone prone to fingerprints and makes them slippery. Both are breathtaking. If we had to nitpick, the Note10+ edges out the P30 Pro because of its curved glass panels that curve so deep that the metal frame sandwiched by the front and rear glass panel is so thin yet so elegantly clean looking. The P30 Pro Amber Sunrise is the new color option that features a gradient from a lighter shade of orange to a deeper shade. The glass panel itself is smooth but depending on how the light hits the panel, a matte-like texture effect along with glitter-like reflections appears that is eye-catching and pretty. It is a step above the initial launch colors of the P30 Pro from earlier this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ Aura Glow, on the other hand, starts out as a shiny golden glow but depending on how and depending on how much light hits the rear glass panel, it lights up in different shades of the colors of the rainbow. It is subtly beautiful and stunning but turns loud and vibrant when a lot of light hits it.
Both phones are IP68 rated which means both are water and dust resistance but we would advise placing a case with either phone to avoid slips and to protect it from accidental bumps or falls.
Topside |
Bottom side |
At the bottom of the P30 Pro are the speaker grill, antenna lines, USB Type-C port, microphone port, and the SIM card tray. The SIM card tray of the P30 Pro can carry a nanoSIM and a nano memory card.
While at the bottom of the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ are the S Pen, S Pen slot, antenna lines, speaker grills, USB Type-C, and microphone port.
Left side |
Right side |
On the left side of the Huawei P30 Pro is a smooth surface while at the right side are the volume rocker and power button. While at the left side of the Note10+ is the Volume rocker and the power button/Bixby button while the right side of the Note10+ is smooth. The buttons from both phones feel solid, responsive and satisfying when pressed.
Both phones, unfortunately, feature a prominently protruding camera bump.
In terms of build quality and design, either phone is stunning. It will now fall to the buyer's preference which they prefer. In this comparison, we are giving both phones a 'W.'
Display
Samsung Galaxy Note10+'s 1440p display and Huawei P30 Pro's 1080p display |
In front of the Huawei P30 Pro is a 6.47-inch 3D curved OLED display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080p at 398 PPI. The screen is housed in a 158 x 73.4 x 8.41mm and weighs just at 192 grams.
The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ has a huge 6.8-inch 3D curved Gorilla Glass 6 protected Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 3040 x 1440 at 495 PPI. The said display is housed in a 162.3 x 77.2 x 7.9 mm and weighs only at 196 grams. Even though both phones have huge displays, the curved nature and slim bezels allow for a significantly smaller form factor.
Awarded by DisplayMate as the best display on a smartphone yet, the Note10+'s display is great with its massive size, its accurate but vibrant colors, its high maximum brightness, and its QHD+ resolution. Though the P30 Pro only has an FHD+ panel, its brightness, color and sharpness aren't that too far behind the Note 10+.
Lastly, the P30 Pro has a small notch on top while the Note10+ features a small punch hole in the top middle of the display. It is somewhat smaller than the notch. Both the notch and the punch hole are Huawei and Samsung's solution to the current trend of super-slim bezels that are off-putting at first but after a while, you get used to them. We hope both companies find ways to offer a full-screen experience soon.
We will have to give a 'W' to the Dynamic AMOLED of the Note10+ because of its larger size, slimmer bezels, and higher 1440p resolution.
Battery
Huawei P30 Pro: 16+ hours, Samsung Galaxy Note10+: 10+ hours |
Huawei P30 Pro carries a 4,200mAh with 40W SuperCharge, and 15W wireless charging with reverse wireless charging while the Note10+ carries a slightly larger 4,300mAh with support for 45W fast charging, 20W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Even though the Note10+ supports up to 45W, the Note10+ only comes with the 25W charger in the box. You will have to purchase the 45W charger separately.
In PCMark Battery Benchmark, the P30 Pro endured an impressive 16 hours of benchmarks while the Note10+ endured 10 hours of testing. This is in line with our real-world results with the Note10+ producing an all-day battery while the P30 Pro produces a day and a half of battery life.
This means that at the end of the workday we would get 40 to 50 percent battery left with the P30 Pro while we would get 30 to 35 percent battery left with the Note10+ at the end of the day.
We will have to give the battery score to the P30 Pro for outlasting the Note10+'s battery by a considerable margin.
Camera
Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note10+'s rear quad-camera set-up |
Huawei P30 Pro features an impressive Leica quad-rear camera set-up of a 40MP f/1.6 RYYB OIS sensor, a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle sensor, 8MP f/3.4 OIS 5x periscope zoom sensor, and ToF PDAF sensor with 4D predictive focus, AIS, color temperature sensor, and dual-tone LED flash. In front is a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera.
Quad-cam for Huawei, triple-cam for Samsung
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note10+ has a 12MP (f/1.5/f/2.4) w/ Dual Pixel, OIS, 16MP f/2.2 123-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, 12MP f/2.1 telephoto lens with OIS, AF, VGA DepthVision camera, and dual-tone LED flash. In front is a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera with Dual Pixel autofocus and OIS.
Huawei P30 Pro camera app |
Huawei P30 Pro's camera app is one of the most feature-packed in the industry with modes like Photo, Video, Aperture, Night, Portrait, Pro, Monochrome, Underwater, Panorama, Light Painting, Document, Dual-View, Slow-mo, Time-lapse, Stickers, Super Macro and more! The Pro mode allows for controls of ISO (50 to 409,600), Shutter Speed (1/4000th of a second to 30 seconds), EV (+-4), White balance and focus. The Pro Mode works on the main, ultra-wide, telephoto cameras.
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ camera app |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+'s camera app features modes like Photo, Video, Pro, Night, Instagram, Live Focus, Live Focus Video, Hyperlapse, Slow motion, Super Slow-mo, Panorama, and Food mode. The Pro mode allows for controls of ISO (50 to 800), Aperture (f/1.5-2.4), Shutter Speed (1/24000th of a second to 10 seconds), EV (+-2), White Balance and focus. The Note10+'s Pro mode only works on the main camera.
The impressive hardware specs and the camera app of the Huawei P30 Pro by themselves earn them a point in this comparison. Let's see how the results of the cameras look like with the samples below.
Rear Camera Samples
Huawei P30 Pro daylight 1x |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ daylight 1x |
Upon closer inspection, it can be seen that the Note10+'s camera software increases vibrancy but maintains proper white balance while the P30 Pro keeps near accurate colors but in a warmer tone.
Both are great in this situation, it now depends on personal preference.
Scene 2 - Cloudy day shot ultra-wide
Huawei P30 Pro ultra-wide daylight |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ ultrawide daylight |
Image rendition of the scene is the same in the 1x shots where the P30 Pro produced the stronger contrast image with warm color tones while the Note10+ has a brighter exposure and the more vibrant color.
If you look closely, the P30 Pro is sharper with details because of its 20MP ultra-wide sensor while the Note10+ has a 16MP ultra-wide sensor. The Note10+'s image has a noticeably wider field of view that allows for more of the scene in the frame. Both phones controlled the softness in the corners well that it isn't too obvious.
Both ultra-wide cameras performed well in daylight. It is now down to the personal preference of whether you prefer the warmer tone and slightly sharper image of the P30 Pro or the wider field of view and a more vibrant colored image of the Note10+.
Huawei P30 Pro's 5x optical zoom |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 2x optical zoom |
Scene 3 - Note10+'s 2x optical vs P30 Pro's 5x optical zoom
As mentioned above the P30 Pro carries an 8MP f/3.4 OIS 5x periscope zoom sensor while the Note10+ carries a 12MP f/2.1 telephoto lens.
P30 Pro's 8MP f/3.4 5x Periscope zoom produces impressively sharp results with decent exposure brightness while the Note10+'s 2x telephoto zoom is noticeably brighter and slightly sharper. Both produce near color accurate results.
Depending on the situation, either the 2x or 5x optical zoom will be useful.
Huawei P30 Pro 10x zoom |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 10x zoom |
Huawei P30 Pro's cutting edge technology with its Hybrid 10x against the Samsung Galaxy Note10+'s digital 10x zoom resulted in images that are night and day. The Huawei P30 Pro's images are a lot sharper and a lot cleaner than the Note10+'s image. This can be clearly seen in the text on the signs and on the bottle labels.
Huawei is clearly the winner in this segment.
Scene 5 - Close-up
Huawei P30 Pro close-up |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ close-up |
The P30 Pro's close-up image is slightly sharper with stronger contrast and tighter field of view while the Note10+ has a wider field of view and brighter exposure. Both produce accurate white balance and color.
Scene 6 - Indoor dim
Huawei P30 Pro indoor |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ indoor |
In this situation, the P30 Pro rendered the scene more accurately in terms of brightness and color while the Note10+ increased the brightness of the scene as well as increasing the vibrancy of color. The Note10+ is also slightly sharper.
Upon closer inspection, the P30 Pro has less noise in the shadow areas compared to the Note10+.
Scene 8 - Low light ultra-wide
Huawei P30 Pro low-light ultra-wide |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ low light ultra-wide |
In low light, the ultra-wide camera of both cameras was tested pretty hard. P30 Pro's ultra-wide managed to maintain a decent amount of sharpness while accurately rendering the lighting condition and colors while the Note10+ is noticeably softer because of noise reduction is noticeably brighter in exposure and is noticeably more vibrant in color.
The P30 Pro's ultra-wide performs better overall in low light even though the Note10+ has a wider field of view, brighter exposure, and a more vibrant color.
Scene 9 - Low light 1x
Huawei P30 Pro lowlight 1x |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ lowlight 1x |
In low light with the main camera sensors, the P30 Pro and the Note10+ performed well but upon closer inspection, the P30 Pro has more detail especially in the leaves and in the textures of the tiles. On the other hand, the Note10+ managed to retain decent detail while increasing the brightness of the exposure while adding vibrancy to the color.
Scene 10 - Ultra-wide Night mode
P30 Pro 1x Night mode |
Note10+ 1x Night mode |
Huawei and Samsung have made night mode available to both the ultra-wide camera and the main camera. In this situation, the P30 Pro's night mode produces an image that accurately renders the color and exposure while the Note10+ has more detail with increased vibrancy and exposure.
The P30 Pro's image is cleaner and smoother compared to the Note10+'s noise that is harsher when visible.
In this ultra-wide night mode, the Note10 plus performed better.
Scene 11 - 1x Night Mode
Huawei P30 Pro Night mode 1x |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ night mode 1x |
P30 Pro's 1x Night Mode is noticeably brighter with more detail than its ultra-wide night mode counterpart. This is also true for the Note10+'s 1x Night Mode compared to its ultra-wide night mode counterpart.
Like previous images, the P30 Pro is able to render the color accurately while the Note10 again increased vibrance in color. The P30 Pro is also noticeably brighter than the Note10+'s image.
Scene 12 - Super Macro
Huawei P30 Pro Super Macro 2 |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ Macro 1 |
One feature that the Note10+ lacks is the ability to focus on subjects that are very close to the camera lens. The P30 Pro is able to achieve this with its Super Macro Mode in both the main and ultra-wide cameras. In the image above, the egg is in focus on the P30 Pro's image while the Note10+'s image has eggs that are out of focus.
Huawei P30 Pro Super Macro 2 |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ Macro 2 |
The same can be seen in the second set of macro images. This time, the Note10+ couldn't even detect the Gyoza that was right in front of the camera and just focused on the background while the P30 Pro has the Gyoza in focus which reveals the tiny details on the fried dish.
Huawei P30 Pro Light Painting Traffic lights |
Lastly, only the P30 Pro has photography features like the AI-assisted light painting that simplifies the long process of multiple long exposures and stacking them in one image. This allows for beautiful light trails which the Note10+ doesn't have.
Upon closer inspection, both phones were able to control the exposure of bright areas like light sources while retaining detail in the shadows. If you look closely at the back of the image, the Note10+ was able to retain more detail of the buildings in the shadows while the P30 Pro retained more detail in the water in the foreground.
Both phones get a point for performing well. It is only a matter of preference which is better.
Huawei P30 Pro's notch and the Samsung Galaxy Note10+'s punch hole |
Huawei P30 Pro features a 32MP f/2.0 with AI HDR while the Note10+ features a 10MP f/2.2 with Dual Pixel and OIS.
Selfie Camera Samples
Huawei P30 Pro Daylight selfie |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ Daylight selfie |
Selfies from both the P30 Pro and the Note10+ are super sharp images. The P30 Pro produced adjusted the harsh light and decreased the exposure that resulted in a strong contrast image but the white balance tended to be on the warmer tone which resulted in slightly off skin tones. While the Note10+ adjusted the exposure to also reduce the harsh light but the skin tones are more accurate.
Scene 2 - Bokeh Selfie
Huawei P30 Pro Bokeh selfie |
Samsung Galaxy Note10+ Bokeh selfie |
Both the P30 Pro and Note10+ rendered the selfies the same but this time let's take a closer look at the Bokeh and the edge detection. If you look closely at the two images, the edge detection of both phones is nearly perfect. They only failed to detect the edges of a small number of hair fibers. The Note10+, however, was slightly off with my right shoulder.
Otherwise, the edge detection is great on both phones but we prefer the bokeh of the P30 Pro. Don't get us wrong, both are top-notched artificial bokeh but the P30 Pro's looks slightly more natural and smoother than the Note10+.

Our thoughts
After comparing the design, build, display, battery, cameras, and performance of the Huawei P30 Pro and the Note10+, it can clearly be concluded that both phones are flagship phones through and through. They are the best of the best. The Note10+ has a better display, and better selfie camera performance while the P30 Pro has a better battery life, better rear camera performance, and a better price.
It is clear that in terms of overall camera performance and features, the Huawei P30 Pro is just more capable and more versatile with its wide number of AI-assisted features and incredible camera hardware.
If we could only pick one, we have to give it to the P30 Pro even with the 1080p display because of its significantly better pricepoint.
What do you guys think? Do you agree with us?
