New mid-range chip with 5G

MediaTek Dimensity 800 is fabricated from TSMC's 7nm FinFET process with a 2x Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. It is paired with the ARM's Mali-G57 GPU, AI processing unit (APU), LPDD4x 2133MHz support, and UFS 2.1 storage support.

The chipset also has support for displays up to FHD+, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ video, and MiraVision PQ engine with HDR video optimizations.

For cameras, its IPS supports up to 64MP image sensors and a quad-camera configuration.

The main highlight of the chipset is its integrated 5G modem with 5G + 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), sub-6GHz 5G SA/NSA, dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA), and MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology.

The integrated 5G modem in MediaTek’s Dimensity 800U not only supports sub-6Ghz SA and NSA networks, but also supports cutting-edge technologies such as 5G+5G dual SIM dual standby (DSDS), dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA), bringing users faster and more stable 5G connections. With MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology, the modem's operating mode is managed based on network environment and data transmission quality, extending the battery life of mobile devices.

MediaTek has always focused on enhancing the user experience with our leading semiconductor technology, whether consumers are streaming, gaming or taking photos, said Dr. Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business Unit. MediaTek’s Dimensity 800U brings cutting-edge, next-gen technology to the Dimensity SoC series, bringing MediaTek’s advanced 5G, imaging and multimedia technologies to high-performance 5G smartphones that deliver incredible 5G experiences.

MediaTek said that the chip has up to 11 percent CPU performance and 28 percent faster GPU performance versus the Dimensity 720.

Since it has a higher-clocked 2x Cortex A76 cores (2.4GHz) than the 4x Cortex-A76 cores (2.0GHz) of Dimensity 800, expect the 800U to have a higher single-core speed, but a slightly lower multi-core performance.

The chip is expected to be available on future mid-range 5G smartphones.
