The Google TV app may soon get an update to allow its users to turn their smartphone into a universal remote control for their Android TV.

Google TV app may turn your smartphone into a remote control soon

Android TV owners can already utilize their phones as Remote Control via Android TV Remote Control app. But that application hasn't been updated for ages, a sign that Google could have a different take on the app's usability.

Those plans have been uncovered when 9to5Google found code strings within the Google TV app which is also formerly known as Play Movies & TV. The code strings hint that Google is about to include the same remote control functionality in the Android TV Remote Control app.

The app will feature a directional pad, enter and back buttons, Bluetooth pairing mode to connect on your phones. For now, the app's remote control functionality is not yet available. 

But, judging how quick Google developers are. We might see it in the coming weeks.
