Yahoo Year-In-Review for the Philippines 2021

In 2021, the Philippines had various events happening including the country's first-ever Olympic gold and the 2022 election race. Yahoo compiled the data and curated this report to reveal what the top searches and newsmakers are for the Philippines.

In terms of news, boxing legend, senator, and presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao topped headline searches this year for multiple reasons. The first reason is his unanimous decision loss to WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas. He then announced his decision to run for President in September under the PDP-Laban party.

In terms of other top search terms, Yahoo revealed that most of the searches are related to the election race and politics with Ferdinand Marcos coming in as the 3rd most search term, Rodrigo Duterte in 5th, Benigno Aquino III at 6th, and Sara Duterte at 7th.

The 2nd most searched term is relating to the threat of Taal Volcano. There's also the 9th most search term with Typhoon Maring, the Philippine Air Force C-130 crash in 10th, and Maria Ressa's Nobel Peace prize in 8th as well.
