Interconnection dispute

Ballooning debt?

In another statement released Wednesday, Globe said the third telco continues to violate their deal due to its refusal to settle the PHP 622 million for supposed fraudulent calls.

Globe said the company has been detecting an average of 1,000 fraudulent calls daily. However, DITO has "persistently ignored calls for payment even though compensation is clearly stated" in their agreement.

These illegal calls clog the network to the detriment of our customers. We need to take utmost caution as ISR calls also carry the risk of exposing our customers to vishing or voice call scams, Globe Group General Counsel Froilan Castelo said.

DITO said it has also been receiving international calls from Globe, making it a victim. It also stressed that the group has measures in place to minimize the ISR calls.

Last Monday, DITO accused Globe and PLDT's Smart of "abusing" their dominant position as its users have been experiencing difficulty in making calls to the dominant players' subscribers.

DITO completed its interconnection with Smart and Globe last April 2021.
