4K resolution to be put as a YouTube Premium only feature?

YouTube Premium may become a requirement to watch 4K videos

Tweet from @sondesix

YouTube is testing to require Premium subscription to just watch 4K videos. For us, it is still FREE, as it should be. However, people are reporting on Reddit and Twitter via screenshots showing the 4K option as a Premium feature.

In the Philippines, YouTube Premium is priced at PHP 159/month with a FREE 1-month trial upon registration. It comes with features such as ad-free viewing and the ability to download and play videos and songs offline. Putting an essential part like 4K resolution behind a paywall may bring in more revenue for YouTube.

Team Youtube on Twitter replied to a user and stated that it is a "part of their experiment" to know better feature preferences for Premium and non-Premium users. It is normal to test features on your platform but putting 4K resolution behind a paywall may rub people the wrong way. But, not all product tests result in permanent service changes.

What do you guys think?
