Just two weeks after introducing the Reno8 T, we learned that OPPO will also make its 5G version official to the Philippine market. |
Reno8T 5G unboxed |
As mentioned, it is the 5G version of the Reno8 T featuring a more attractive and bigger curved 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED screen, a more capable 6nm Snapdragon 695 5G-ready processor, and a faster charging solution at 67W.
It also retained its other key selling points like the 108MP main shooter and the up to 40x microscope camera.
Luckily, we have had the chance to take a look at it ahead of local release. We do not know how much it will cost yet, but here's what we initially think about it.
Unboxing/Accessories
|
The inclusions |
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G arrived in a sleek-looking silver box.
Inside, you will be greeted by a second carton box with a flexible translucent case, paper documents, and the SIM ejector tool.
|
The handset itself |
After that, you will find the handset itself. Upon closer inspection, the phone has a pre-installed plastic screen protector.
Underneath the phone, you will see the USB-A to USB-C data/charging cable and the USB-C power brick.
Thankfully unlike other brands, OPPO is still including this fast-charging brick in the package.
However, there are no earphones with a mic included in the package.
Build Quality/Design
|
Shiny curved back with a matte texture |
In terms of materials used, the OPPO Reno8 T 5G uses a curved glasstic material at the back and frame. In front, there is an AGC DT-Star2 3D curved OLED screen. There is no mention of water and dust resistance, just the inclusion of a water seal on the SIM card tray.
OPPO said that it has a "wear-resistant" build!
OPPO is also claiming that this has a "wear-resistant" build which is nice to know. But, only time will tell if this claim is accurate.
We still recommend slapping the FREE case right away to prevent damaging your beautiful-looking phone.
|
The camera layout |
We mentioned that it is a beauty because it is. At the back, it resembles the design of the Reno8 T 5G, but it is using the Reno Glow-like finish that shines like the stars.
Immersive 120Hz curved OLED screen!
The unit that we got is the Dawn Gold variant, but it is also available in the Starlight Black colorway. Both are not that prone to fingerprint smudges due to the matte-like texture of their paint finish.
|
A smooth and vibrant screen |
In front, this is where it really shines versus the other Reno devices we've tested in the past. It is using a 6.7-inch large 3D curved OLED screen with 2.32mm ultra-thin bezels resulting in a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio.
The device is not that large despite its big screen size measuring just 162.3 x 74.3 x 7.7 mm and is also lightweight at 179 grams.
|
Top, bottom |
On top, it has a smaller speaker hole and a microphone. Below, you will find the SIM card tray, another microphone, a reversible USB-C port, and the primary speaker hole. Yes, this now has a stereo speaker setup.
|
Left, right |
On the left, you will see the volume up and down keys while on the right is the power key. All of the buttons are not that hard to reach unless your hand is too small or too big.
This is a very portable device that feels great in the hands. Just make sure that you have a nice grip as it is a bit slippery to hold at times.
We are currently in Barcelona to attend the MWC 2023 event of OPPO and OnePlus and we will get back to you guys with camera samples later.

As of the moment
We do not know its SRP yet, but the Reno8 T 5G definitely sits in the middle of the Reno8 T 4G and the Reno8 5G.
|
The AnTuTu score |
Definitely, it is more attractive than the Reno8 T 4G. We are quite pleased with its build, impressed with its display, and the performance is quite okay as well. Thankfully, it has 5G too. The main camera is also quite nice in most lighting conditions and it has a cool microscopic camera. But, it is a bummer that there is no ultra-wide shooter.
Anyway, we hope that it will get a competitive price tag and we will see you guys in our full review for the verdict.
