OPPO Find N2 Flip Camera Samples from Shenzen, China

Besides its premium build, eye-catching design, 120Hz Flexible LTPO AMOLED display, stereo speakers, and 44W fast charging capabilities, the new Find N2 Flip features an interesting camera system for a foldable smartphone.

In particular, at the back is the 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with AF, 8MP f/2.2 112-degree ultra-wide camera, and an LED flash. While in front is the 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera. The primary camera is a Sony IMX890 with a large 1/1.56-inch sensor size.

The stock camera app comes with the following modes: Photo, Video, Night, Portrait, Pro, Pano, Movie, Slo-Mo, Time-lapse, Sticker, Text Scanner, and XPan.

The Pro mode comes with controls for ISO (100-6400), Shutter Speed (1/8000-30 secs), EV (+-3), Focus, and White Balance.

Now, we share straight-out-of-camera shots taken with the OPPO Find N2 Flip during our recent trip to Shenzen and Guangzhou, China. I used it as my daily driver during our trip.

The first three (3) images listed above were taken in daylight. As you can see that the sharpness, detail, and contrast are decent but the color and contrast are excellent.

The same could be said with the close-up shots. Images have great color and contrast but the sharpness is just okay.

For the daylight selfie and selfie portrait, the images are sharp and detailed with great color and contrast.

While the portrait mode's artificial bokeh has great edge detection. It only struggled with individual hair fibers and the darker shade of blues from the jacket's hood.

Indoors, both the main camera and ultra-wide perform their best. Sharpness, detail, color and contrast are at their best.

Indoor selfies are the same as in daylight. The sharpness, detail, color, and contrast are on point.

In low light, the images are sharp and detailed with good color and contrast but with noticeably more grain than in daylight and indoors.

Low-light selfies are also great but struggle with overexposed light sources.

The night mode did clean up the noise and improved sharpness but it needs tweaking to remove the weird-looking artifacts on light sources like screens and neon signs.

Night mode selfies improve the noise levels and sharpness while improving the exposure to light sources. We recommend using the night mode for selfies whenever the subject is not moving. 

Quick thoughts

Both the rear main camera and ultra-wide camera produce images with decent sharpness and detail but with excellent color and contrast. Both perform their best indoors.

We noticed that the night mode for the rear cameras struggles with weird artifacts but does reduce the noise and improve the image's sharpness. It may need some more software tweaks to get better.

What impressed us is the great selfie camera performance across daylight, indoor and low light.

Hopefully, OPPO can release software updates that address our minor concerns soon.

Overall, the OPPO N2 Find Flip's cameras are not class-leading but they are not that far behind and we would be happy to use them on a daily.

Update: We suspect that the unit I brought to China is the one with issues. The OPPO Find N2 Flip that Peter brought in MWC 2023 Barcelona takes better images. See the samples here.
