Google launched the "Passkey" a new safe and simple alternative instead of typing your passwords.
The tech giant claims this new method is more secure and resistant to online threats like phishing and one-time SMS codes. Google account users can now log in to apps in a similar fashion as they log in to their phones using a fingerprint, facial scan, or screen lock PIN.
Google's product managers wrote in a blog that while passwords won't go away yet, said that they are frustrating to remember and can put people at risk in case these passwords end up being compromised.
Passkeys can only exist on devices, thus Google account holders can create a passkey for their Google accounts by visiting g.co/passkeys and fulfilling the steps.
Last year, Google revealed its goal for a passwordless future, which they have been working on it for at least 10 years. For robust security, they also introduced the 2-step verification method and Google Password Manager.
Since then, passkeys have been supported by Chrome and Android and services like Docusign Kaya, Paypal Shopify, and Yahoo! Japan.
