Pets are part of your family too and every owner must be responsible for the health of their animal buddies. Igloo says that if you're aiming to get or already have one at your home, below are the tips they shared on how to provide proper care for your pets.
Do your research
Do your research

Ensure that your pet can thrive in the environment you're in - One of the first things an owner must consider is to gauge whether their fur babies can thrive inside the environment (home) that they will stay in. Igloo says that in the Philippines, owners must adopt those that can live in tropical climates.

Igloo continued that owners must take a look at the right breed of either cat or dog. Look into the coats and their body structures. Otherwise, pet parents should invest in creating the right environment for their pets, including the preferred temperature and ventilation.

Feed your pets food that's proper and healthy for them - A responsible owner must always do the research on what to feed their pets. Animals can have intolerances, allergies, and some food are poisonous to them. For example, no chocolates for dogs, and feed cats with less sodium food.

It is vital to learn what a proper, balanced diet is like for your pet and it can be done through research or consultations.

Exercise your pets - Doing this activity helps in burning the animal's energy, and keeps them limber and mentally/physically healthy, as in the case of dogs. Just ensure that the type of exercise is appropriate for them as different pets and breeds require different kinds of exercise.

Keep up with their checkups and vaccinations - Pets also need proper nutrition, exercise, and regular medical consultancy. Based on the American Veterinary Medical Association, all pets should receive a physical medical examination at least once a year. These visits must include vaccination and treatments.

The reason for this is that animals cannot outright say or show signs of disease or injury—things that a trained vet can spot and provide treatment and guidance on.

Invest in pet insurance - Routine vet visits or unexpected medical emergencies may put a strain on a pet owner's budget. That's why Igloo says it's important to consider pet insurance like their newest product Pet Insure (Dogs only).

Specifically, this new product is a customized non-life specifically made to protect the health of dogs of any breed. This will allow owners to fully address the needs of their dogs including emergencies and accidents.

Regional insurtech Igloo, in partnership with Malayan Insurance and Gcash, introduces Pet Insure (Dogs) to provide owners convenience and security as it offers 3-in-1 coverage that includes medical reimbursement for veterinary care up to a maximum of PHP 100K; owners liability coverage of up to a maximum of PHP 250K; and a personal accident cover for dog owners worth PHP 50K for a price of PHP 650 for a one-month coverage on the GCash GInsure marketplace.
