OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G Photo Samples in Davao + Ortigas: Best Zoom and Portraits under PHP 40K?

OPPO last week revealed its newest line of photography-focused mid-rangers called the Reno10 Series 5G. At the very top of the series is its "Pro+" variant.

On paper, the device boasts some of the very best specs you will find under PHP 40K which includes the  Dragontrail Star 2 protected 6.74-inch 1.5K 3D curved AMOLED screen, the powerful 3.0Hz 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 octa-core processor, 100W SUPERVOOC charging, and many more.

But apart from those strong specs, what really caught our attention is its flagship-like camera configuration.

According to OPPO, this setup is designed to capture stunning Portrait shots.

In particular, it uses a 50MP f/1.8 IMX890 primary camera with All Pixel Omni-Direction PDAF and OIS paired with an 8MP f/2.2 Sony IMX355 112-degree ultra-wide-angle camera and the 64MP f/2.5 OV64B 3x optical periscope zoom sensor with PDAF, CDAF, and OIS.

For selfies, it is packed with the 32MP f/2.4 Sony IMX709 RGBW sensor with autofocus.

Moreover, it has the OPPO self-developed 6nm MariSilicon X NPU that helps improve its overall shooting performance.

Let's see if it can really take great zoom shots and "SLR-level" Portraits.

In daylight, we first tried its cameras in the mountains of BuDa (Bukidnon Davao). It produced an image with vibrant colors, proper exposure, and wide dynamic range considering that this is a slightly against-the-light shot.

Next, we tried its 3x optical zoom. It is dimmer with a bit more noise. BUT, this is still far more detailed than any other 3x digital zoom from other phones at this price point without a periscope zoom camera. Just enhance this a little via Snapseed or any of your favorite photo editing apps and you will get a social media-ready image.

Of course, we tested its ultra-wide shooter as well. We liked that its colors are consistent with the main camera and the distortion is not that evident. The difference in details is not that noticeable as well.

OPPO is also very proud of its Portrait zoom capability and we could see why. It works even on non-human subjects and the subject to background separation is just fantastic.

We also tried on how far can it zoom. The 10x result is still social media ready. Meanwhile, the 120x zoom is soft and has visible artifacts. BUT, it was pretty steady as it has some sort of stabilization feature. Moreover, this is one of the better 120x zooms I've seen in the under 50K range. If you can see, the details on the buildings are still quite visible.

As long as you use it in a well-lit condition, the shots we took look very social media-ready. The details are really crisp and the colors are on point. Of course, the background blur is professional camera-like. You can even use the beauty function to make yourself look better.

We also tried its 3x optical and 6x lossless zoom and they produced impressive results, even for indoor shots with artificial light sources. The shots are crisp and it can produce a natural background blur in several close-up images. The 3x optical zoom is more detailed, but the 6x zoom is not bad for a hybrid digital zoom.

I actually really enjoyed using its 3x zoom and used it often to take some of the delicious meals we had in Davao. The colors are just right here with enough pop. The AI of Reno10 Pro+ didn't make them oversaturated which is nice to my eyes.

In the dark, the Reno10 Pro+ can also perform nicely with a wide range and minimal noise to the naked eye. It isn't the brightest around. BUT, those who want their night shots to look like shots that were taken in the dark will appreciate this.

I also tried its ultra-wide at Night and I'm generally pleased with what I saw. Details are still fairly crisp as long as you use the Night mode, the colors are punchy, and the dynamic range is quite wide. The details on the clouds are still present.

Since it has a periscope zoom lens, we tried if it is still effective in the dark. The answer is yes.

But, expect a minimal drop in picture quality. Artifacts will be a little bit noticeable as well.

Meanwhile, the 32MP selfie camera also performed quite okay. If the beauty mode is off, selfies will be crisp and will not make your skin overly soft and light. This has a pretty wide field of view and is respectable in terms of overall performance in different lighting conditions.

As of the moment

For mobile photography, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ arguably has the strongest camera specs on paper which translates nicely in real life. This takes near flagship-grade images with some of the best zooms I've seen on a phone at this price point.

Edge detection in Portrait shots could be a little better and maybe the Night mode could be a bit brighter.

But, for a smartphone priced under PHP 40K, we think that the Reno10 Pro+ 5G did a decent to a great job in nearly all shooting conditions. It is not just for Portrait shots.

There are very few who can compete with it in terms of overall photography performance at this price point.

Having said that, this is a decent choice for anyone looking for a photography-focused handset with balanced overall specs for a great overall smartphone experience.
