Smartphone shipments down in Q2

According to IDC Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone shipments fell 2.1 percent to 4.2 million units—but the latest figure was an improvement from the 11-percent decline in the prior quarter.

Angel Medez, client devices senior market analyst of IDC Philippines, said Filipino consumers were cautious about their spending due to the elevated inflation, which led to "eight consecutive quarters of annual contraction."

In the second quarter, Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Trassion emerged as the top player with 38.3 percent market share, the largest we've seen in a while.

Three more Chinese smartphone producers secured the top spots, including realme, Xiaomi, and OPPO. South Korea’s Samsung, on the other hand, had a 9.8 percent market share.
