Another image sensor innovation?

The Korean Giant claims that the new ISOCELL GNK Mobile Image sensor is built to express high dynamic scenes to the "fullest". It features Staggered HDR technology which utilizes three different ISO modes that should enhance HDR performance with a dynamic range of up to 102dB. Even the single frame-based Smart-ISO Pro should improve dynamic range while minimizing motion artifacts that can lead to creating images with color depth as high as 14-bit.

The sensor measures 1/1.3-inch and it has an effective resolution of 8,160 x 6,144 or 50MP with a 1.2-micrometer pixel size. It features a Dual Tetrapixel RGB Bayer Pattern, an electronic rolling shutter, and an ADC accuracy of 10 bits. It can capture up to 24fps at full 50MP or up to 90fps at 12.5MP images and it can record up to 8K at 30fps or 4K at 120fps.

For Autofocus, it features Samsung's Dual Pixel Pro which can compare the phase differences in both top and bottom and left and right directions. Samsung says this allows it to quickly focus on objects in motion wherever in the frame.

The new sensor can capture up to 8K at 30fps with minimal loss in the field of view. (or minimal cropping). It supports AF and HDR video for video recorded at 1080 at up to 240fps.

The sensor merges four neighboring pixels into an even larger 2.4-micrometer pixel to achieve higher light sensitivity in low light. While in daylight, the sensor should maximize the benefits of its Tetrapixel array to produce supposedly exceptional 50MP images.

It should arrive in devices as early as next year.

What do you guys think?
