This is a historic achievement for Apple since it has been 12 years for Samsung who reigned in the top spot.
Even though global smartphone shipments went down by 3.2 percent in 2023 the lowest record in ten years.
Meanwhile, IDC reported that shipments slightly recovered in H2 2023 and indicates continuous improvement as 2024 approaches.
If you take a glance at the market share of smartphones, Apple managed to get 24.7 percent which also translates to 11.6 percent growth in Q4 2023 thus becoming the number 1 phone brand.
As for the second spot, Samsung receives a 16.3 percent market share with a 10.9 percent decline. Completing the top five brands will be Xiaomi at 12.5 percent, Transsion (TECNO, Infinix Itel) at 8.6 percent, and vivo at 7.4 percent.
As for the overall year 2023 report. Apple has a 20.1 percent share, Samsung with 19.4 percent, Xiaomi at 12.5 percent, OPPO at 8.8 percent, and Transsion at 8.1 percent.
Besides the debut of the iPhone 15 series featuring the 1st USB-C in the lineup, the Cupertino-based tech firm's ascension to the top can also be attributed to the growing trend of consumers purchasing premium products, which IDC claims accounts for more than 20 percent of the market. Even though iPhones can cost up to USD 1,000, external variables such as trade-in offers and financing options have made it possible for customers to obtain the latest Apple products.
The question is, with Samsung's nearing launch of the Galaxy S24 Series today, can they make a comeback or will Apple maintain the lead?
What do you guys think?
