More payment options for the commuting public

According to a BusinessWorld report, Mastercard and AF Payments, Inc., the company behind beep cards, have teamed up to make available more payment options for commuters.

With this partnership, cardholders will be able to ride public transport by simply tapping their prepaid, debit, or credit Mastercard cards.

This is expected to benefit millions of Filipino commuters in Metro Manila, enhancing smart mobility through initiatives that bring our transit systems in line with global transport standards, Beep President & Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Juan D. Moreno was quoted saying.

He also said this move aims to further promote the use of contactless payment in the country.

This will be rolled out in phases across MRT stations, Bonifacio Global City, and EDSA buses.

The BusinessWorld report quoted Mastercard Gateway, noting that the "program will be exclusively used in Beep’s network and will introduce and expand open loop transit payments powered by Mastercard’s payment solution."

The companies hope to expand contactless payment to ferries and other modes of transportation across the country.
