IDC: HONOR and HUAWEI leads market share in China! (Q1 2024)

The international research firm has published a report wherein two Chinese tech firms HUAWEI and HONOR are virtually tied with just a 0.1 percent difference in market share.

HUAWEI got a 110 percent year-on-year growth, the largest increase among phone manufacturers in the survey.

IDC also highlighted that the Chinese phone market has maintained its recovery progress, displaying growth of 6.5 percent in the 1st quarter of 2024. A large credit goes to both HUAWEI and HONOR who have shown outstanding performance thus tying for the top spot.

Huawei had a 17.0 percent market share in China in the first quarter of 2024, gaining 8.4 percent from the previous year.

Meanwhile, the research firm says that HUAWEI should focus on the supply chain issues to maintain its position in the smartphone industry without any challenges.

Moving forward, HONOR got a 17.1 percent market share in a similar quarter and with a 13.2 percent YoY growth. The researcher said that HONOR went up the ladder thanks to its versatile product offerings and the Magic6 Series which boasts top-tier imaging combined with AI features.

Furthermore, IDC's research suggests that both HUAWEI and HONOR had 9.3 percent of the global Android market YoY growth. Apple faced a 6.6 percent fall in the same quarter due to intense competition in China. This is because despite providing large discounts on its products, the brand still didn't see any growth.

The rest of the top five in the chart are Apple at 15.6 percent, OPPO at 15.7 percent, vivo at 14.6 percent, and others at 20.1 percent.
