I tried the 50MP camera of the OPPO A60, see the samples here:

If you are looking for an affordable yet durable smartphone for casual use, OPPO is offering the A60 to the masses with a starting price of PHP 9,999.

According to the company, they have tested that device to survive multiple drop tests and even harsh conditions.

PH ICT index score is up

But as we all know, having a durable phone is not the only thing that matters for most casual smartphone users, it has to have decent cameras.

Anyone can use it to share a part of their lives on social media, businesses like taking photos of a document to easily send it to a client, and take product shots for their online store, among others.

So, OPPO equipped the A60 with a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with autofocus and an open-loop focus motor paired with a 2MP f/2.4 black and white camera. For selfies, it has an 8MP f/2.0 shooter.

Is it good? See below.

In daylight and in most areas nice natural lighting. I have no major issues with the exposure and details. The shots were just a little bit more contrasty than what I would have preferred, but at least the colors are there.

For indoor well-lit shots, the tone is warm, But again, it is detailed and the colors are rich. I also liked how it handed light sources here. It isn't overexposed and these shots should be good enough for most.

As you can see here, these indoor shots with artificial yet adequate lighting are considered impressive and right in correct colors at this price point. AND yes, even if you zoom up to 2x, details are crisp and it is near lossless in quality.

In the dark, shots are usable. But, it will struggle a little. Grain will be visible and the overall image will be softer. Thankfully, it has a Night mode (best to use on non-moving subjects) that will help make your snaps look crisper with reduced noise.
Night mode 2

Here's a sample Night mode shot with moving objects. As you can see, somehow creates that "action" scene for the vehicles in the photograph.

If you are wondering, this phone also has an 8MP selfie shooter. My advice is to use it more often in well-lit areas. The Beauty mode is also "on" by default and you may want to lessen or turn it off to make your skin tone more natural-looking.

By the way, its Portrait mode has decent edge detection.

This device can also take 1080p videos. However, make sure that you have steady hands or a tripod to avoid shaking.

Quick thoughts

The OPPO A60 may not be the first phone in your mind when it comes to taking pictures. But, its camera for photography is generally serviceable. It takes detailed well-lit images and can do lossless zoom as well.

However, if you do not really need an extra-durable phone with a PHP 9,999 to PHP 11,999 price tag, the competition is stiff.
