Offers a better-personalized back design, mass production soon?
Infinix claims to have developed the first-ever AI-powered technology that enables the back panel of a device to change colors.
This will allow users to personalize their back cover's design with different colors or icons which can reflect their emotions of the characters or the theme of their preferred pictures.
Infinix said that the company has met the worldwide demand for fluid self-expression by providing limitless customization options to accommodate users' distinctive and constantly changing styles.
It continued by explaining how the technology works by having two categories: passive (non-electrically driven) and active (electrically driven).
The first dual color-changing back cover in the industry was introduced last 2021 Infinix Concept Phone, which combined electrochromic and electroluminescent technology. In 2022 the company introduced the Light-Painting Leather which boosted the development of photochromic technology. Infinix noted the E-Color Shift 1.0 redefined smartphone color interaction earlier this year. Building on that base, E-Color Shift 2.0 offers key improvements like the Prism3S hardware upgrade for improved performance and a roughly 10x increase in color-shifting zones. These developments lift both functionality and artistic expression by seamlessly combining AI with modern technology.
Infinix’s latest innovation addresses the growing demand for personalization and self-expression among young consumers globally. Traditionally, customization was limited to front screen wallpapers, while the back relied on fixed phone cases. E-Color Shift 2.0 breaks this barrier with a color-shifting battery cover. Using AI, the phone's back cover changes colors and patterns based on selected photos. It extracts emotions or weather from the image and reflects them in abstract designs across 46 customizable zones. This fusion of technology and art enables radical combinations, making future smartphones truly unique, said Weiqi Nie, Product Director at Infinix
According to Infinix, the E-Color Shift 2.0 concept phone is literally raising smartphone customization to a whole new level. With countless options to choose from, it enables users to dynamically alter the phone's back cover design based on their mood or surroundings.
Coming from the recognition of E-Color Shift 1.0, this version adds a number of noteworthy improvements, such as internal battery power, a 3D, four-curved back cover, 46 color-shifting zones, and the Prism3S diaphragm. E Color Shift 2.0 combines the latest technology and art with AI-driven features, opening the door for potential mass production in the future.
Using the phone's internal battery instead of an external power source is one of the main improvements between versions 1.0 and 2.0. This adds usefulness for daily use by enabling the back cover to light up whenever and wherever needed. From a flat 2D design to a stylish 3D four-curved structure, the back cover has changed to be compatible with a larger variety of phone models.
Infinix also says they are using AI features for color matching, weather response, and emotion matching to automatically adjust in real-time and according to the user's preferred vibes and emotions.
According to the brand, AI Color Matching lets memories stay on beyond the screen by analyzing users' images and translating the most prominent hues into creative tones for the back cover. AI Weather Response establishes a smooth link between the phone and the user's selected environment by identifying the weather conditions in the image and converting them into abstract, artistic colors that express the mood. AI Matching goes further than customization. The AI recognizes the user's preferred mood by examining facial expressions in portrait shots. It then automatically applies matching colors and patterns on the phone's back cover, making the gadget emotionally relatable to the user.
Finally, the brand has hinted at possible mass production in the future providing customers a new way of personalized back design and catering to the growing demands of the younger generation.
